CHEAP FRONT TENT FOR OUR SPRINTER for less than 150 Euro
WE NEED SOMETHING THAT WILL MAKE THE EVENINGS MORE PLEASANT AND PROTECT US FROM RAIN AND WIND
Originally we were at a store for camping accessories with German management at a nearby campsite to get a front tent for our Sprintervan. From a catalog we had ordered a suitable awning for our Sprinter and waited for a response. Since unfortunately no more feedback came, we had to look for an alternative.
We got some cool ideas about awnings via the Facebook group “Sprinter van conversion”. After our research, we finally came across the sports outdoor store Decathlon and their tent department. In the online store, there are not only sleeping or living tents but so-called stay tents. Since we have a branch of Decathlon near here, we drive over and let us order such a tent. At a price of 120€ compared to a “real” awning solution for 500€-800€, the order is not difficult for us.
After two days, we receive notification that the tent is ready for pickup. We immediately jump into the car and drive to Decathlon, then briefly to the hardware store to get a few little things like fairy lights and off we go home to set up. On the place where we spend the winter, we notice a new German mobile. They obviously had the same idea as we did and already have such a small lounge pavilion. How cool is that then please? The neighbors I will visit later and am very curious about their experience.
We unpack the 14-kilogram package and start sorting the individual parts, after all, we are supposed to have a cozy tent evening today. After just under an hour and a glance or two at the assembly instructions, the tent is ready. We quickly fasten it with guy ropes, because it is supposed to be stormy the next few days. Looks great!
On the left there is an entrance, which is well finished and protected against moisture. Right next to it a small window, which serves for ventilation. The back wall has a large window over the entire surface. You can easily roll up the outer tarp to the inside and also have enough fresh air. If the weather permits it can open the two sides completely and has a pavilion, which protects only from above from the sun. For us, however, were primarily the protection from rain and wind important.
DOES THE ALTERNATIVE FRONT TENT FOR THE SPRINTER LIVE UP TO ITS PROMISE?
I visit the neighbors briefly. Their experience so far for the inexpensive lounge tent is consistently positive. Easy assembly and disassembly, quality is very good for this price and it offers space for up to 8 people. Of course, it will only become clear in daily use whether this purchase was also the right decision for us. Currently, we are very happy with this solution, because we no longer have to sit outside unprotected in cool evenings and can even put a small fan heater inside. Still some decoration and tadaaa, really cozy!
We were actually always satisfied with our awning during the summer months. However, it is now also in the south of Portugal very fresh in the evening. From Sunday it should rain here the whole weeks and it was time to find a suitable solution.
Addendum: After the tent has survived wind gusts up to 100km/h well and we had only once a water penetration (that was our fault, because we had not closed the sides properly) this part is really recommended without reservation. It has an unbeatable price and can be used versatile in summer or winter. We are very satisfied and happy with this purchase decision.
